Some facts about babies and their sleep


  1. newborns generally require help to get off to sleep but then can ‘drift’ between sleep cycles.

  2. the 4-month sleep regression is a progression of sleep cycles to be like those of adults.

  3. overnight wakes every 2 or 4 hours line up with the end of a partial or full sleep cycle. 

  4. catnapping (45 mins) means baby cannot yet link sleep cycles.

  5. an overtired baby will wake more overnight and earlier for the day.
